    Abstract

University buildings are highly public, and have social, cultural, and symbolic roles as landmarks. However, few studies have been conducted on the renovation of university buildings, and research in this area is needed. This study aims to derive foundational data on the renovation of university buildings through analyses of the trends related to exterior renovation of university buildings, based on actual renovation cases in universities. Thus, this study selected analysis targets according to physical and functional deterioration, which were causes of renovation, and design analyses on materials, decoration, color, exit doors, walls, and windows were conducted. The results of this study will contribute to providing foundational data for future exterior renovations of university buildings.
